chapped lips
a hodgepodge of stars and planets and burning meteors
and promises that escaped chapped lips
we were supernovas, exploding words, exploding skin
our glances across rooms would douse walls in chemicals
send cinderblock up in flames
i gave you candycane chapstick for christmas,
smooth lips didn’t put back together the promises
instead they decorated the black hole where i think all my love ended up
we danced on the rings of saturn
well you danced, poorly, and i drifted,
so slowly you didn’t notice at first
there's no oxygen in space,
my last breath wasted on licking my lips
or were they yours

when your mouth
loses its shape
against mine
the together, in which
they sing to the dead within,
tightens the dreamwire between us
and we step
one toe's worth of time,
a less-breath, closer
to each other, toward them
and the invisible away
tucked behind its white wall of noise
you remind me how love sounds
in a whisper, as involuntary
as a planet's struggle
to rein its own systems in,
while spinning an impossible axis,
nesting a break in the hostile continuum
and it sounds lonely, but lovely,
as one startled toe's worth of time
forgets to breathe and bleed
from end to end, forgets
to count itself down, so lovely alive
once dreaming agains

I was just watching this scene where an old lady ponders her meaningless life while looking out at spring. And meanwhile I was looking out at autumn, thinking the same thing. So tada, inspiration struck! XD
It basically shows the passing of times through the seasons. But while the scenery changes, the person is stuck in work. Each season shows the different stages of work - from reading (literature survey) to implementation to results collection. By winter, the scene is all white. Yet the person sees all black. You could interpret it as either the person going literally blind or that the result of all that work is unsatisfying.
